Breaking Barriers, Building Futures: The U’Nique Diversity Innovation Story

At U’Nique Diversity Innovation, “empowerment isn’t just a mission—it’s a movement.” With a deep commitment to advocacy, healing, and resilience, this organization stands as a beacon of hope for individuals overcoming adversity. Whether facing “domestic violence, mental health struggles, sexual trauma, or substance abuse,” U’Nique Diversity Innovation provides the necessary resources, education, and unwavering support to help people reclaim their strength and their future.

"A Legacy of Strength and Service"

Empowerment runs deep in the roots of U’Nique Diversity Innovation’s founder, Shanee. Born into a lineage of trailblazers, she was raised with the core belief that “resilience and determination could conquer any challenge.” Her great-grandparents owned the first Black funeral home in Brockton, Massachusetts, teaching her the power of “community service and compassion.” Her great-uncle, LT. James Fischer, was a Tuskegee Airman, a living testament to “perseverance in the face of adversity.” These legacies laid the foundation for Shanee’s mission—“to create spaces where healing and empowerment thrive.”

"Turning Pain into Purpose"

Shanee’s journey wasn’t an easy one. At just 17 years old, she entered a military marriage, believing in love and stability. Instead, she found herself in the grips of “domestic violence,” as her husband battled PTSD and his own mental health struggles. She endured years of trauma before finding a mentor, Irene Bagdolian, who guided her toward “reclaiming her independence and strength.”

As a single mother to two children with disabilities—one who required open-heart surgery and another diagnosed with cerebral palsy—Shanee became an unrelenting advocate. She mastered the “504 and IEP processes,” ensuring her children and others like them received the support they deserved. Her dedication extended into healthcare, where she worked as a psychiatric nurse at the Brockton VA, gaining firsthand experience in “mental health care for veterans.”

But life had another twist. A career-ending injury forced her to pivot, leading her into entrepreneurship and expanded advocacy. Rather than allowing hardship to define her, she used it as “a catalyst for change.”

"Creating U’Nique Diversity Innovation"

Founded in 2017, U’Nique Diversity Innovation is the culmination of Shanee’s life experiences. The organization is dedicated to “advocating for survivors of domestic violence, promoting mental health awareness, and championing disability rights.” By integrating Community Health Workers (CHWs), the organization bridges critical gaps for individuals navigating life’s toughest challenges.

Their impact is profound:

"Mental Health & Addiction Support" – Licensed professionals guide individuals through healing.

"Domestic Violence Advocacy" – Empowering survivors to reclaim their independence.

"Disability Navigation" – Helping parents and students master IEP and 504 processes.

"Community Health Services" – Providing direct, compassionate care through expert-led teams.

"Elderly Services"

"Indigenous community wellness services"

"Nursing Mobile Unit"

"Veterans"

But Shanee’s vision didn’t stop there.

She launched U’Nique Secrets, a platform focused on “self-love, trauma healing, and open communication.” The initiative also fosters “women’s health education and empowerment events,” such as "Exotica Paint and Play," where women "reclaim their sexuality and confidence in a safe and supportive environment."

"Building a Future of Empowerment"

Shanee’s passion for education is evident in her relentless pursuit of knowledge. She earned her licensed practical nurse LPN degree from Intercoast Career Institute in 2013, an Associate's degree in Liberal Arts from CCRI, is currently completing a Bachelor’s in Public Administration with a minor in Psychology at Rhode Island College, and has returned to CCRI to complete her Registered Nursing (R.N.) degree.  She has her LPIM degree in licensed medicine, and I am working on receiving my doctoral at the end of 2025.

Her story is a testament to “resilience, education, and passion”—proof that hardship can be transformed into “purpose.”

"A Vision for Change"

U’Nique Diversity Innovation envisions a world where trauma survivors, individuals with disabilities, and those facing mental health or substance abuse challenges can “thrive.” The organization is committed to fostering “safe spaces, advocacy, and education,” ensuring that every individual has the opportunity to reach their fullest potential.

Through an expert-led team—including psychiatric nurse practitioners, therapists, Doctors, Nurses, Attorneys, Therapists, substance abuse counselors, and case managersU’Nique Diversity Innovation provides the critical support needed for “lasting transformation.”

"You Are Not Your Label—You Are Your Energy"

Shanee’s message is clear: “You are more than your struggles, more than your past. Your energy can ignite change, within yourself and the world.”

With a “helping heart” and a “bold vision,” she has turned her pain into “power,” and now, she’s lighting the path for countless others to do the same.
